Puerto Cabezas is on the Atlantic Coast of Nicaragua in the Miskito Region. It is a 90 minute plane ride from the capital of Managua across the very sparsely inhabited jungle. The Porteno School is located at the center of town in Puerto Cabezas.
The Porteno School, in Puerto Cabezas, Nicaragua, was destroyed by Hurricane Felix in 2007. Thankfully, a donor rebuilt the school and 440 students attend this six-room school house throughout the day. The teachers have extremely limited resources, and students sit at their desks with only paper and pencils. Eight education students from American University are planning a trip to bring supplies and professional development for the teachers at the School in March 2009. We need your help.
